What is best thing I can do for dry mature skin? I have always had oily skin all
my teen and adult years, but now that I'm nearing my late forties, my skin suddenly
become dry and flaky around my upper cheeks and nose area. I have tried almost every
dry skin product out there, and they seemed to dry me out even more. Do you know
of a good drugstore facial cleanser and moisturizer for dry skin type? Thanks! –
10 Amazing Ways to Use Almond Oil for Dry Skin
As you get older, your skin changes and the early signs of skin aging begin to appear.
At early 40s, your skin starts to lose its youthful elasticity and tone and becomes
less firm than it was.
You may notice fine lines and wrinkles around your forehead, eyes and mouth area;
dry skin patches may also be visible because your body produces less sebum or natural
skin oil (outermost protective layer of the epidermis), making you more vulnerable
to environmental stresses such as pollution, sun and damaging free radicals.
In addition, changes in hormone levels also occur in preparation for menopause that
usually begins in the late 40s. Reduced estrogen (oestrogen) levels can cause collagen
production to drop, which in turn negatively affect the thickness and suppleness
of your skin. As a result, your once-radiant, gorgeously moist supple skin becomes
dull and lifeless, thinner and drier.
Therefore, what worked amazingly well for you in your 20s and 30s may no longer work
for you now. You should stop using skincare products formulated for oily skin as
they may contain harsh ingredients or alcohol that can dry your skin out even more.
What Drugstore Skincare Products Works for Mature Aging Skin
There are quite a number of good drugstore skin care products that are great for
dry skin type, and I particularly recommend Cetaphil and Cera Ve.
Try Cera Ve Hydrating Cleanser. It gently cleanses without irritating the skin while
at the same time, helps prevent moisture loss through evaporation and keep the right
balance of moisture in your skin. Cera Ve products are fragrance-free, and noncomedogenic
(won't cause pimples or acne by clogging pores).
Alternatively, use Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser. A non-irritating formula that
effectively removes surface oils, grime, dirt and makeup without leaving your skin
feeling tight or overly dry. Like Cera Ve, Cetaphil is dermatologist recommended
and gentle for everyday use and will also work for people with skin problems such
as eczema, and psoriasis.
As for moisturizers, I would suggest you use L'Oreal Plenitude Revitalift Face &
Neck Anti-Wrinkle and Firming Cream to plump up skin cells and reduce the appearance
of fine lines and wrinkles on mature skin.
I am also fond of nature oils for skin care and sometimes apply virgin coconut oil,
avocado oil or almond oil on my face as a part of my overall skin care routine to
rejuvenate dry skin.
Almond oil is especially good for mature aging skin as it boasts a plethora of excellent
skin enhancing properties that will help revive lackluster skin and reduce the appearance
of fine lines, wrinkles, and skin pigmentation. In addition, almond oil is a rich
source of Vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant which is widely known to nourish, soften
and provide immediate moisture to dry skin.
Almond oil is not overly greasy and does not clog pores. The best part, almond oil
is reasonably priced.
You only need a few drops of almond oil to treat dry facial skin. Simply apply and
gently massage into your clean face until absorbed.
That said, you will also benefit from the natural goodness of these oils – wheatgerm
oil, apricot kernel oil, grapeseed oil, jojoba oil, olive oil, or kukui nut oil.
They all moisturize dry mature skin and keep it smooth and supple. However, make
sure you do a small skin patch test to rule out any possible allergies before using
any essential oil.
