Aspirin Face Mask

By Tiffany Moore

If you're thinking about getting one of those outrageously expensive acne-fighting systems or going for spa facials to treat acne, wait until you check this out. You can solve all your acne problems with a cheaper and effective alternative – homemade aspirin face mask.

Aspirin mask provides many benefits for healthy skin care. For example, aspirin (a type of salicylic acid) works to clarify problem skin, exfoliates dead skin cells, shrink pores and calms redness.

It also unclogs skin pores and get rid of excess oil, leaving your skin smooth and visibly clearer. Simply put, aspirin is an ingredient proven to control and reduce the occurrence of acne breakouts.

Before I go on to explain how to make an aspirin face mask for acne, it's extremely important to make sure that you have no allergy problems with aspirin. When in doubt, do a patch test on your inner arm.

There are a few variations to a basic aspirin facial mask. Some people add yogurt, avocado, aloe vera, olive oil or coconut oil. I like mine with a bit of honey.

Homemade Aspirin Honey Facial Mask Recipe

1. Place 4-5 non-coated, plain aspirin in a small plate or bowl. Crush the tablets with the bottom of a metal spoon.

2. Add a few drops of warm water and mix well with crushed aspirin to form a thick gritty paste. Leave for a few minutes.

3. Mix in 1 teaspoon honey into the paste. Honey is a natural emollient and anti-microbial which has been used for centuries to soothe problem skin. When combined with aspirin, honey also helps to heal blemishes and lighten acne marks.

4. Spread the paste evenly on your clean face, avoiding the delicate eye area (make sure you clean your face first with a gentle cleanser. Avoid using a cleanser formulated for acne as it can be too harsh to use with an aspirin facial mask).

5. Relax and leave the face mask on for 10-20 minutes.

6. Gently rub the aspirin granules into your skin while rinsing it off completely with lukewarm water. By doing so, you exfoliate the dead skin cells responsible for clogging sebum in the pores, which encourage pimples in the first place.

7. Pat dry. Then apply chilled toner (refrigerate the toner for 1-2 hours) and moisturizer on your face.

Use the homemade aspirin face mask once a week. If you use it frequently to treat acne, it might dry out your skin too much. In about a month, you'll see a great improvement in the clarity of your skin. You get less redness, less blackheads, brighter and smoother skin. Big difference for a very small price – amazing!!
