Back Acne Treatment – Get Rid of Bacne Home Remedies

By Tiffany Moore

Back acne or bacne – whatever you call it, it refers to acne on the back, upper arms or buttocks. Bacne can be pimples, blackheads, pustules or cysts. Back acne is a cause of overacting sebaceous glands that produce excess oil.

Bacne can affect anyone. However, males often suffer from back acne, particularly during puberty. The increase in androgen levels cause the sebaceous glands to overproduce, thus clogging skin pores. Clogging attracts bacteria, and as a result back acne occurs.

Causes of Back Acne

There is no scientific explanation for what causes bacne but many people believe that stress, oily or fatty foods, excessive sweating, tight clothing, bad personal hygiene and even sleeping on unclean sheets and bedding can aggravate back acne.

How to Treat and Get Rid of Back Acne

Stubborn acne on the back often requires oral prescription antibiotics. The skin on your back is thicker than anywhere else, so bacne is more resistant to treatment than facial acne.

A prescription vitamin A cream or 10% benzoyl peroxide wash is recommended. For milder cases of back acne or the occasional breakout, you can treat spots with over-the-counter benzoyl peroxide lotion.

Peels can help unclog pores, but these should be a supplementary back acne treatment.

You should also wash your back with an anti-bacterial cleanser everyday. Use a cleanser that is formulated for the face, such as AminoGenesis Really Really Clean. Avoid regular soap as it tends to make your skin dry.

Exfoliating the skin is also important in bacne treatment. An effective and economical exfoliant can be made with 3 parts baking soda and 1 part water.

Apply the paste in a gentle circular motion after washing back, then rinse off. This safe and natural exfoliant will get rid of dead skin gently without the use of harsh chemicals. Do it 2-3 times weekly.

You may want to use a back scrubber (long loofah) to help you reach the areas of your back. Or, get another person to exfoliate your back.

After cleansing, allow your skin to dry and apply a 10% benzoyl peroxide gel or cream to the affected area.

How to Prevent Back Acne

1. The first step to prevent back acne breakout is to wear loose clothing, especially in hot and humid weather. Tight clothing do not allow air to pass through, and trap sweat.

2. Always wash yourself after any activity that causes excessive sweating such as a gym workout, running, garden work or even heavy housework. Since bacteria can exacerbate bacne, always put on clean bras and T-shirts when working out.

Also, place a clean towel down before lying on exercise machines or mats at the gym. After a sweaty workout, always shower first to get rid of dirt and bacteria before you go straight into the steam room.

3. In line with keeping your skin clean and to prevent backne breakouts, change your towels, your pillowcases and your sheets frequently.

Do not use detergents and fabric conditioners that contain irritating ingredients. You may want to consider soap nuts.

By following a few simple steps, you can get rid of bacne. But, back acne treatment can take much longer than weeks to work, so be patient.
