Easy Christmas Sweets Recipes – Homemade Chocolate Truffles

By Kate Miller

When it comes to Christmas, stores are stocked high, months ahead with the most scrumptious Christmas sweets. They're all pretty to look at and often, expensive as well. If you're like me who believe that the best Christmas gifts for friends and family come from your own kitchen, then I'm sure you'll love this no-bake recipe.

Homemade chocolate truffles appeal to young and old alike. They're impressive yet easy to make and fairly inexpensive.

Placed them individually in foil cups, packed in a cute gold box with a red bow, chocolate truffles make a delicious gift from the heart. Not only for Christmas, chocolate truffles are also great for any occasion – Valentines Day, Thanksgiving or birthdays.

Homemade Chocolate Truffles Recipe

(makes 48)

Ingredients:

12 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
6 tablespoons unsalted butter
6 tablespoons powdered sugar
6 egg yolks
2 tablespoons rum
cocoa powder

How to make chocolate truffles:

Place chocolate chips in the top of a double boiler and bring the water to a boil. Lower the heat and cook until the chocolate melts.

Next, add butter and sugar, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat.

Add egg yolks, one at a time, beating with an electric mixer after each addition. Stir in the rum.

Pour mixture into a large bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and allow it to sit for 12 to 24 hours in a cool dry place but do not refrigerate.

Shape the mixture into 1-inch balls and roll them in cocoa powder.

Freeze chocolate truffles for about an hour. Store in an airtight container and keep it in the refrigerator.
