DIY Organic Skin Care Recipes from Your Kitchen

By Tiffany Moore

Many of us have become more budget conscious these days, but it shouldn't mean you've to stop pampering yourself. If high end beauty brands are way beyond your means, then use what you've in your kitchen to make organic skin care treatments. We've put together a list of organic easy and effective skin care recipes that you can make at home for a lot less money.

Homemade Skin Care Products Using Household Items

1. Olive Oil

Most of us use olive oil in salads or pastas, but did you know that olive oil is really moisturizing for dry skin and hair?

Olive oil offers the same results as store-bought moisturizers and conditioners for far less cost.

Gently massage a ¼ cup of warm olive oil onto your hair to treat dandruff and/or as an oil treatment to condition your hair. You can also use olive oil to keep your skin supple and youthful looking.

2. Oatmeal

Not only good for lowering cholesterol, oatmeal is also a wonderful ingredient for scrubs and to soothe irritated skin.

If you suffer from excessive dry or itchy skin, add a cup of finely ground oatmeal to your bath to calm your irritation.

Many people swear by oatmeal to treat acne. Cook up some oatmeal, let it cool until lukewarm and apply on affected areas for 10 minutes before washing it off.

3. Baking Soda

Baking soda can clean your teeth, clear skin blemishes and acts as a exfoliant.

Mix equal amounts of baking soda and water; gently scrub your nose or T-zone with the mixture to get rid of blackheads.

4. Carrots

Filled with Retin A, carrot has the ability to rejuvenate the deeper layers of the skin.

Boil 2-3 peeled carrots until cooked. Mash them and mix with 4 tablespoons of honey. Apply to your face, let it stay  for 10 minutes and rinse off. Your skin will feel velvety smooth and elastic instantly.

5. Vinegar

Vinegar is non-irritating and works wonders as a natural deodorant.

You can dilute apple cider vinegar with water and apply with cotton wool balls under your arms every morning to neutralize your body's pH balance. Don't worry, the vinegar smell will evaporate and you can dress without smelling like a chip shop all day!

Your kitchen is a treasure trove of organic homemade skin care treatments. Make good use of it to pamper your complexion with inexpensive ingredients that are healthful and good for you.
