It seems that the humble egg – home made egg white face mask is a good alternative that has big skin-tightening and acne-fighting benefits in natural skin care therapy. If applied to the face on a regular basis, egg white will greatly improve your skin’s appearance and health, without spending huge sums of money.

 

Egg whites are an excellent source of protein plus they are also rich in a wide spectrum of Vitamins and minerals such as selenium and the B complex Vitamins. Selenium is a component of antioxidant enzymes which helps protect the skin against sun-induced free-radical damage and slow down skin ageing naturally by promoting skin elasticity. When skin loses elasticity, it begins to sag and wrinkle. Forehead wrinkles, crows feet and fine lines under your eyes, lips, and other areas become more noticeable.

 

Another notable benefit of selenium for skin is, the mineral helps prevent acne breakouts, and keep skin pores clear.

 

Aside from helping your body produce energy and maintain cellular functions, the B complex Vitamins also play an important role in keeping the skin healthy and looking young. For instance, Vitamin B3 (niacin) can help enhance your skin’s natural lightening process to promote beautifully whiter and fairer complexion.

 

Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) speeds up wound healing and help remedy dry chapped skin. In addition to this, it also regulates oil production in acne-prone skin, thereby keeping pimples and acne under control. It is not surprising to hear of people taking Vitamin B 5 supplements as a natural treatment to cure adult acne, but you should always read up on them first as megadoses can cause a variety of side effects like severe fatigue and dehydration.

So if you are looking for a quick way to shrink enlarged pores to their original size, this egg white face mask recipe is simply amazing. It is like an instant mini face lift to tighten pores and tauten slack saggy skin tone.

 

What’s also nice about the egg white mask is you can add a handful of household items to suit your skin condition. As I have oily skin that tends to break out quite a bit, with large pores and blackheads on the nose, fresh lemon juice and witch hazel are my preferred choice of natural skin care ingredients. When combined with lemon juice and witch hazel, the egg white face mask absorbs excess facial oil while removing blackheads naturally.

 

If you want a face mask that is more hydrating for dry mature skin, use honey as it adds moisture to thirsty skin, leaving your facial complexion well-mositurised and truly silky soft to the touch. Mix 1 tablespoon honey with the egg white and maybe add 1-2 drops orange essential oil as well.

 

For acne sufferers, you can stir in 1 tablespoon each of rose water, oatmeal (or cornmeal) and crushed fresh mint leaves. Both rose water and mint leaves helps calm and soothe red inflamed pimples quickly while oatmeal soaks up excess oil on the face and fights bacteria.

 

To restore brightness to dull-looking stressed skin that has dry patches on cheeks, or to fade freckles and age spots, ½ tablespoon fresh grapefruit juice (or orange juice) and 1 tablespoon sour cream (or milk) will work miracles.

 

Sour cream not only nourishes and hydrates dry skin, but will also gently exfoliates to reveal smoother, more radiant complexion, thanks to its lactic acid. Grape fruit enhances the egg white’s astringent properties and also helps to lighten dark skin pigmentation, giving you a naturally whiter and spot-free skin.

 

One very important thing is always use organically produced eggs as they are free of hormones, pesticides or herbicides. Otherwise you may be transferring these undesirable substances to your skin. Also, keep in mind that some people are allergic to eggs. If you experience skin redness, itching, burning or swelling when putting on the egg white tightening mask, rinse off completely and contact your doctor right away.
