The first day on a new job is always the hardest for many. Even though you have aced the interview and finally got your dream job, you cannot deny that you are still feeling anxious about your first day at work.
Feeling the jitters during the first day of a new job is perfectly understandable
because the new workplace and the nature of your new job are both unfamiliar. Plus,
there are things that you have to adjust to as well as things you have to learn.
Here are some tips to beat first day job jitters and feel confident around your co-
1. Getting a good night’s sleep is very important as it prepares you for the new day ahead. When you are well rested, you will be more alert in the office and hence, your first day on the new job will be less of a chore.
If you have trouble asleep the night before, try to relax by listening to some soft music or take a warm bath. Tell yourself that you were hired because you were the best candidate for the job. In addition, focusing on your strengths will also help your overcome jitters and help you sleep better.
2. While it can be tempting to wear brand new clothes and shoes on your first day at work, it is best to put on clothes that you are comfortable and confident in. Check that it fits you properly otherwise it will make you fidget all day long and leave bad impressions on your fellow workers. Very importantly, make sure they are clean and well pressed.
If you want to invest in a new office wardrobe, it is always a good idea to wear it a few times before you start the new job.

Consider the time of day you will be traveling and make allowances for expected traffic conditions and bad weather. Give yourself plenty of time to get to work on the first day so that you will not late.
5. It is absurd that you know everything about your new job on the first day so if you are unclear about anything, don’t be afraid to ask questions. Do not make the fatal mistake of pretending to know what you are doing in order to please your new supervisor because you will soon be caught out.
Also, keep your eyes and ears open, and don’t forget to smile.
The first day on a new job is always the toughest regardless of the workplace or type of job you have. However, despite whatever fear and anxiety you might have during that first day, you can always find ways to overcome those “first day job jitters”.
