When avocado fruit is mentioned, guacamole usually comes to mind. But did you know
that the alligator pear is generously bestowed with an ample supply of natural skin-hydrating
nutrients that can genuinely help improve a range of common aesthetic conditions
of dry skin?
This highly nutritious creamy fruit yields a very rich heavy oil – avocado oil –
that is a treasure chest packed with powerful antioxidants Vitamins (A, C and E),
minerals and omega-3 fatty acids, all of these will help keep your skin in tip top
condition – exquisitely supple with a healthy dewy glow.
Take Vitamin E for example, it has huge beautifying effects on dry mature skin. It
protects the skin from the sun’s damaging UV rays while fighting free radicals that
cause skin ageing such as wrinkles, age spots and dry leathery skin. Furthermore,
Vitamin E is also shown to soften skin roughness and restore moisture to dehydrated
skin, leaving it feeling adequately mositurized and renewed.
Vitamin C, as you may have already known from a multitude of advertisements for beauty
products, is one of the best and most popular anti-aging ingredients that help turn
back the clock. This skin-rejuvenating Vitamin not only helps keep wrinkles and fine
lines off your face, but also helps brighten uneven skin tone and lighten skin pigmentation
that can occur with increasing age.
Vitamin A promotes healthy skin growth and a defciency can lead to a wrinkly or dry
flaky complexion. Additionally, it works wonders as a spot-buster to clear up pimples
What’s really interesting about the avocado oil is, it penetrates the skin deeper
than any other plant oil, thus making it a highly sought after ingredient in a wide
variety of skin and body care products, particularly those that are specially formulated
for mature skin type and for treating chronic dry skin problems like eczema and psorasis.
And since the fruit also contains high concentration of sterolins (plant sterols),
using avocado on face regularly will have positive effects on dark spots, acne scars
and chickenpox marks. The reason is sterolins improve skin metabolism and stimulate
your skin to produce more collagen. Collagen helps skin cells to regenerate and damaged
tissues to heal and repair themeslves at a faster rate.
Although ready made avocado oil is not used in these DIY home facials, you might
want to consider getting a bottle. You can use avocado oil to nourish and encourage
hair growth, as an effective weapon to combat celluite, or even to remove makeup.
Just in case you cannot find good quality avocado oil for natural skin care, try
this at-home method to manually extract avocado oil from the fruit. Purchase a few
fresh organic avocados from your local grocery store, cut flesh into cubes and then
allow to dehydrate (food dehydrator 125˚F to 135˚F, 4-10 hours) or naturally dry
up. After that, press to extract avocado oil using an expeller press.
