A friend asked, "Why would you want to make steam bread when you can use the oven?" My answer is simple; it's darned easy, delicious and you can make the bread anytime, anywhere – on the stove, on the grill and yes, over a campfire.
Although it takes longer to make breads by steaming, steam breads never get burnt as they are cooked at a temperature which water boils (212°F). So, that means no disappointments!
Here's an awesome recipe for steamed bread – Honey Almond Coffee Steam Bread. This
aromatic coffee-
Ingredients:
¾ cup all-
¾ cup whole wheat flour
1 cup finely ground roasted almonds
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoons baking soda
½ cup honey
½ cup sour cream
⅔ cup cooled strong coffee
Place all flour, almonds, baking powder and baking soda in a large mixing bowl; mix well.
Stir in honey, sour cream and coffee. Mix everything well.
Pour mixture into a 1½ quart Pyrex bowl; cover the bowl tightly with foil.
Place bowl on a steamer rack and steam over medium heat for about 1½ to 2 hours or till the bread tests done. The middle should be moist but not sticky when done. If it's not done, recover it and continue steaming. Then check again after about 20 minutes.
Let steamed bread cool for 15 minutes before you remove it from the bowl.
I told you it was easy, didn't I? Get ready a nice pot of hot coffee and enjoy your honey almond coffee steamed bread!
