Wreaths are very popular decorations during the holiday season since they are usually the first to greet your guests some holiday cheer when they knock on your door. Additionally, floral wreaths are great as they give holiday ornaments that breezy refreshing look even when it is snowing outside.
Though floral wreaths may seem a little complicated, they are actually relatively
easy to make. Why not gather up your family and make your own floral Christmas wreaths?
Homemade wreaths save you money and it's also a fun way kick-
Before you start this holiday craft project, you will need to get these things ready – a wreath base, scissors, glue or tape, flowers, a few extra bows and ties.
The wreath base is usually shaped like a ring and are usually made out of straw, grapevine or Styrofoam. A green garland of ivy, evergreen, morning glory or gardenia is used to cover the base. Pins may be used to attach the garland to the Styrofoam base. If you are working with a straw or a grapevine base, wire may be more appropriate to hold your garland in. You can either opt to cover the base all throughout in green which is best when you are using Styrofoam or you can leave a few peeks of grapevine or straw.
Now, it’s time to add in your flowers. When you choose the flowers for your holiday wreath, keep in mind a particular theme. Having a theme or settling on a group of flowers means savings since it is always cheaper to buy flowers in a bunch rather than buying two or three of each kind. You also want to make sure that the colors complement each other before you purchase. Band your flowers together and see if they look good. This acts as a preview to your wreath.
To know how many flowers you will need, look at the size of your wreath base. It’s also a good idea to consider how much space you want your flowers to cover. Always buy flowers that still have a base stem on them since this would be easier to tuck into your wreath base.
When you work on your design, try arranging and positioning your flowers first before securing them down. This will allow you to improvise without all the hassle of pulling the flowers out and replacing them on. Once you are satisfied with what you have in front of you, use floral wire or glue, to secure your flowers. To finish your floral Christmas wreath, add colorful ribbons, glitters and gold trimmings for a really gorgeous Christmas touch.
