5 Surefire Ways to Stay Motivated and Focused

By Lornie Kass

Motivating yourself to do well at your job or to be a role model to your employees, should not be something you do only when the spirit moves you. It’s an ongoing process that should include every facet of your business life – your mental attitude, physical well-being and appearance, work atmosphere, your interaction with others as well as your off-the-job environment.

Motivational experts make thousands of dollars telling professionals how to stay focused, remain confident and  strive for success. Just  follow these 5 smple yet effective motivational tips, and watch the magic work on you!

1. Maintain a Positive Attitude - Life is only 10% of what happens to us and 90% how we react to it. We’re responsible for our own actions and attitudes, and changing them when appropriate.

When you’re around positive people or things, you feel uplifeted. You have more confidence in yourself, and know you can change whatever needs changing. If you can make your workplace pleasant for everyone,  you get happier workers and higher production. Your employees enjoy coming to work!

2. Don’t Bring Your Troubles to Work - No one is without problems, just leave your  personal problems at home. They don’t belong to your workplace. Divert your attention and energy wholeheartedly to your on-the-job tasks. In fact, it’s better for you since you get a break from your troubles.

3. Create Positive Affirmations - The reason for writing goals for your business is the same as creating positive affirmations on paper. Your mind believes what your eyes see and ears hear.

After writting your goals, read them aloud to yourself every morning when you get into work. Come up with a set of new ones every month. For example, telling yourself “I’m an important and valuable person,” or “I’m going to make good use of my time today.”

Repeating them out loud everyday at a set time reinforces positive actions and helps you to stay focused.

4. Make Sure Break Times Are Really Break Times - Regularly adhering to a specified break schedule helps to ease any tense situation you’re working in, and reduce stress. If you work on a computer, set a reminder on your appointment calendar for every 2 hours, and let the computer reminder chime send you the alert to move around and have a break.

5. Exercise, Exercise, Exercise - “Exercise” doesn’t neccessarily mean that you should go out and spend your lunch-time, 3-days-a-week there working out in the gym. Simply getting up and walk around your desk or room is good enough to stretch your body. Concentrated, tense thinking makes your muscles tightened. Periodic stretching, even at your desk, or just getting up and walking over to the window helps you to relax.

It only takes a little concentrated effort to stay motivated and focused, which leads to success. Give any of these motivational tips a go. You’ll regret if you don’t!
