What Crafts Can Kids Make Out of Household Items?
1. Plastic Spoon Wind Chime
Here's a great way to craft green and reuse disposable plastic cutlery. Gather some
plastic spoons (about 5 to 7), a paper plate and some yarn and you're on your way
to making a wind chime.
First, cut the yarn into lengths from 4" to 6". Then, tie to the ends of the plastic
When you're done with that, make a few holes into the paper plate. Thread the yarn
through and tie a knot in each piece.
Finally, fasten three pieces of yarn to the top of the paper plate. Let kids decorate
the paper plate with drawings, stickers or glitters.
Cut a hole big enough for every coin under the lip of the milk jug so kids can slip
their money in. Let them decorate it however they want.
3. Another way to reuse milk jugs is to make a planter. Cut the top off of the milk
jug, fill it with soil, and let your kids plant easy-to-grow vegetable, flower or
herd seeds in them.
Make sure they keep up with the plant and water it. The plant will need to be transplanted
to the garden or bigger pots when they outgrow their "pots".
4. Recycle your old egg cartons into cute little ladybugs. You'll need empty egg
carton cup, a small piece of black chenille, 2 small wiggle eyes, 1 medium black
pom pom, colorful acrylic paint, black acrylic paint, white craft glue and hot glue
Separate egg carton cups with scissors and trim the edges neatly. Next, let kids
paint egg cartons and let dry.
Glue wiggle eyes on to black pom pom (head) and let dry.
Glue it onto the side of the egg cup with white craft glue and let dry completely,
making sure the eyes are facing out and are where you want them.
Now, cut the black chenille in half. Bend the end of each one to form the antennae
and fix to the head with hot glue.
Then paint black dots to the ladybug's back. Let dry completely before giving it
to your kids.
There are so many ways to make crafts and games for kids with things around the house.
Use your imagination and let your kids explore the different ways to turn trash to
treasure recycled crafts!
