My father never talked to me about male menopause and what andropause symptoms can
do to a man, mentally, physically and emotionally. Maybe, he didn’t know male menopause
existed. But the truth is, andropause is real and it’s not simply about aging. Let’s
take a brief look at how to identify and deal with the symptoms of male menopause
(also called andropause or viropause).
When men experience a decline in their testosterone levels, that’s the beginning
of male menopause. Because we don’t have a clear sign like women do when they stop
having periods, many of us don’t even realize we’re actually going through male menopause.
And since the testosterone decline is gradual, about 10% decline in testosterone
levels every 10 years, men experiencing male menopause or andropause don’t generally
experience the severity of menopausal symptoms as women do.
Generally speaking, male menopause symptoms are slight and slow to have an intense
impact on our lives until we’re in our fifties or sixties.
Symptoms of Male Menopause (Andropause)
The first symptom of male menopause is a change in a man’s sex drive. The decreasing
hormone levels have a negative impact on the mood and mental abilities. Men going
through andropause will find they’re not as eager for sex as before or may experience
problem with getting and maintaining an erection.
Other andropause symptoms can include a loss of energy, general fatigue, depression,
and unknown difficulties in sleeping. You also tend to gain weight during your menopausal
years and may experience hair loss due to male hormone (testosterone) imbalance.
Irritability, excessive sweating without any definite reasons, urinary problems,
as well as lowered physical agility are also telltale signs of andropause.
These symptoms may be so mild that you are not really aware of them. Usually, when
men reach late 40s, the testosterone decline in their bodies has made andropause
symptoms much more apparent.
More often than not, male menopause symptoms are mistaken for other medical problems.
That’s why it’s very important that you go for regular physical examinations to make
sure you’re in the best of health. When andropause symptoms starts to interfere with

Black cohosh (tea or supplements) as well as wild yam is particularly helpful for
depression and night sweats. Saw palmetto is widely used to naturally increase testosterone
levels and also lower DHT (dihydrotesterosterone) levels in men, which in turn helps
