When you're pregnant, the last thing you want to do is to take medications unless necessary. However, some pregnant women experience morning sickness so severe that it leaves them feeling tired and awful with no energy to do anything else. Although the main reason for morning sickness is due to hormonal and chemical changes, dietary deficiency, exposure to strong odors and digestive problems can also cause morning sickness. If you've morning sickness, consider these effective home remedies:
Ginger has been known throughout history to help cure morning sickness. If you dislike the taste of raw ginger, try ginger tea, or all natural ginger ale instead. Ginger candies, ginger cookies or even pickled ginger are also good for relieving morning sickness. However, take them in moderation as studies has shown that excessive amount of ginger may induce miscarriage.
Very often, morning sickness may occur simply because of an empty stomach. Keep a few snacks such as crackers on your night table and eat them as soon as you wake up. By doing so, it helps to alleviate your morning sickness symptoms.
Additionally, have small frequent meals instead of three large meals a day. Salty foods are particularly helpful for morning sickness but make sure to choose those low in fat and easy to digest.
Peppermint is also a very effective cure for morning sickness. Try drinking a cup of peppermint tea to settle your stomach or eat a peppermint lifesaver. You can also get relief by inhaling peppermint. Keep in mind that essential oils are very strong so you want to go easy. One great idea is to place a drop or two on a handkerchief and take it along with you in your purse.
Lemon is one of the best home remedies for morning sickness. When you feel the symptoms of morning sickness, just sniff the lemon juice or lemon peel for fast relief.
Evidence has shown that increasing your intake of Vitamin B6 helps cure morning sickness. Again, check with your doctor before taking extra Vitamin B6 along with your prenatal vitamin since too much can cause numbness and nerve damage. Your doctor will advise you on how much Vitamin B6 is safe for morning sickness relief.
Some people may simply brush it off as an old wives' tale but satisfying your food cravings during pregnancy can actually cure morning sickness. So, if you're craving for a large plate of Fettuccine Alfredo, by all means, enjoy. However, be sure it's low fat fettuccine Alfredo you're digging in!
