Niche Topics (Beauty and Wellness) is all about a natural approach to healthy skin,
hair and nails. You'll love our collection of organic homemade beauty, bath and body
treatment recipes using natural ingredients that nourish, pamper, cleanse and protect
your skin. Harness the healing powers of Mother Nature's bounty to make yourself
If uneven blotchy skin tone is your number one beauty concern, and harsh facial chemical
peels make you cringe, then I have good news for you. This phenomenally simple homemade
papaya face scrub holds the secret to a radiantly glowing rosy complexion without
making a huge financial splurge!
Papayas contain papain, which are enzymes that act as a natural exfoliant to gently
slough away dead skin cells that can make your complexion appear lifelessly dull,
leaving you proud with ultra-smooth, goregously luminous skin for the whole world
That’s not all. The papain enzyme in slightly underripe green papaya also helps balance
and thoroughly cleanse the skin, and is particularly beneficial for oily skin. It
zaps away excess surface skin oils without irritation while minimising and tightening
large pores. Dead skin cells when mixed with sebum and bacteria can clog pores, leading
to a host of bothersome skin problems such as blackheads, pimples and acne.
What’s even more fascinating about the papaya is, believe it or not, it helps repair
wrinkles and fine lines. The fruit wards off wrinkly skin by rebuilding elastin which
is responsible for your skin’s elasticity and tone. On top of that, papaya is very
rich in Vitamin C, an antioxidant known to protect and help manufacture collagen
so skin stays youthful and firm. Vitamin C also has skin whitening properties to
naturally lighten freckles and other skin imperfections like brown spots as well
as age spots.
In addition, the skin-smoothing effects of this gentle DIY papaya lightening face
scrub recipe are further propelled by the pressence of oatmeal to give your complexion
a supple and satiny feel. This is due to oatmeal’s many skin-enhancing benefits,
and one of them is the ability to soothe and heal dry itchy skin.
Papaya Facial Scrub Recipe
Suitable or all skin types, but always do a skin patch test first as papaya can irritate
sensitive skin, especially those with latex allergy.
1 tablespoon papaya pulp
2-3 teaspoons ground oatmeal
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
How to make papaya face scrub
1. Mash papaya pulp with a fork.
2. Add oatmeal and sugar. Mix all ingredients until you get a nice spreadable paste.
3. Apply papaya facial scrub on your face and throat, avoiding the delicate eye area.
Massage lightly in a circular motion and leave on for 3 minutes. Rinse off completely
with lukewarm water and then moisturize.
If you want to add intense moisture to your face, I would highly recommend you try
this out. Place 1 tablespoon ripe avocado pulp in a bowl. Add 1 teaspoon raw honey
and 3 drops Bragg’s apple cider vinegar. Drizzle in just enough sesame oil to form
a thick paste. Apply to face and wash off after 5 minutes.
