Kids lunch breaks don't have to cost a bomb – there're many delicious ideas out there to dress up the ordinary peanut butter sandwich but I think you'll more fun with some of our family's favorites! They are tasty, healthy and great for grownups too!
Peanut Butter and Banana. Bananas are really a nice source of potassium and if your kids normally dislike eating bananas plain, here's one great way to have them in their diet. Take one ripe banana and mash lightly, spread on bread and top with peanut butter.
Peanut Butter and Berries. If your kids love berries (raspberries, strawberries, blueberries or even blackberries) try pairing them with peanut butter and eating them on a sandwich. Spread a spoonful of crunchy peanut butter on bread.
Thinly slice some fresh juicy berries and arrange over the top. The juiciness of the berries compliments the crunchiness of the peanut butter. It's one trick to get kids eat fruits!
Peanut Butter and Kiwifruit. Take a kiwifruit, remove skin and slice thinly. Place kiwi slices on top of peanut butter and enjoy as a healthy and fruity snack on hot summer days.
Peanut Butter and Honey. Spread a spoonful of crunchy peanut butter onto your kids’ favorite bread (great on walnut bread), drizzle with honey and if you like, leave as an open sandwich without a top slice. Sweet and crunchy snacks in a flash!
Peanut Butter and Raisins. Spread a layer of peanut butter onto lightly toasted bread and sprinkle some plump juicy Californian raisins over the top. It makes a yummy light afternoon kids snack.
Peanut Butter and Carrot. Don't let this unusual combo fool you; it's delicious and extra nutritious! In a bowl small, combine peanut butter and any fruit spread of your choice (apricot spread tastes yummy) and stir in one grated carrot. Spread between two slices of bread. Great for kids school lunch boxes
Peanut Butter and Mayo. Two tablespoons peanut butter, a little mayo and one slice American cheese is all it takes to create a creamy dreamy peanut butter sandwich. Take a slice of wholegrain bread and spread with peanut butter; place cheese on top. Take another slice, spread with mayo and place it on top on cheese. Delicious...once your kids tried it, they'll be hooked!
And, here's how others reinvent the boring peanut butter sandwich – peanut butter and brown sugar on toast, peanut butter and bologna, peanut butter and yogurt, peanut butter and kimchi (Korean pickled vegetables), peanut butter and pickle, peanut butter and fried egg ... The peanut butter ideas seem to go on forever! So, be creative and surprise your kids!
