I can't think of anyone who doesn't love a good crisp flaky quiche filled with creamy goodness that crumbles in the mouth. But, it can get really boring to eat the same old stuff over and over again, no matter how much you love quiche/keish. So, if you're getting tired with the usual basic quiche fillings and want to liven things up, here are some of the best unusual quiche filling ideas to rock any jaded palate!
1. Smoked salmon is a wonderful ingredient that only marry deliciously well with eggs but also add a touch of elegance to homemade quiches. Just roughly cut up smoked salmon and add to your quiche filling before baking. Serve warm with mixed dressed salad leaves and a nice chilled glass of white Macon wine... a whole lot classier than the usual quiche Lorraine!
For an added flavorful twist, you may want to add a bit of cayenne pepper, nutmeg, chopped fresh dill, thyme or dill, depending upon your personal tastes, or whatever you have on hand.
2. A tasty way to sneak in veggies for all picky eaters is to serve a vegetable based quiche such as ricotta and spinach quiche. Simply stir in small cubes of ricotta and frozen chopped spinach into your quiche filling mix. You can also use Cheddar, brie, camembert, or soy cheese (Cheezly Mozzarella Style Soy Cheese is my personal favorite; great for vegans and people watching their cholesterol levels).
For healthy extras, throw in peppadew peppers, zucchini, butternut squash, or a handful of sunflower seeds.
3. Impress and surprise your family with the exotic bold flavors of the Mediterranean by adding ingredients such as peppers, courgettes, onions, artichoke hearts, black olives and sun dried tomatoes. These beautiful additions make your quiche look as appetizing as it tastes, and will surely brighten up any weekday dinner.
4. Instead of using silvers of ham in traditional quiche recipes, why not excite meat lovers with such as leftover roasted turkey, applewood smoked bacon, ground sausage or chicken breast?
Try Cajun spiced chicken for a really good spicy taste sensation, or cook a big hearty ‘breakfast’ quiche by adding chopped chorizo sausage and bacon. Top with tomato slices and sprigs of fresh basil, it looks absolutely stunning to serve on a lovely Sunday morning brunch.
5. Mushrooms are another popular filling for quiche. You can use sliced crimini mushrooms, portobello mushrooms, white button mushrooms, shiitake mushrooms or any other mushrooms that tickle your tastebuds.
Mushrooms pair extremely well with vegetables such as spinach, asparagus, leeks,
onions, corn, broccoli and chard . If you prefer a non-
As you can see, the possibilities for quiche fillings are limitless. With a little creativity and playing around with different combos, you can make your own special quiche that will wow the entire family, and keep them coming back for more!
