What if you're in a mood for Chinese food but have only western condiments in your pantry? Well, not to worry, you can still whip up a scrumptious Chinese dish.
Here's a prawn recipe that doesn't call for oyster sauce, dark or light soy sauce, hoisin sauce or sesame oil but still delivers full Asian flavor. And, did I mention it's easy too?
(serves 4)
You'll need these ingredients:
12 large prawns or shrimps
2 large onions, sliced
1 large tomato, quartered
10 tablespoons oil
5 tablespoons tomato sauce
1 tablespoon sherry or white wine
1 tablespoon sugar
salt and black pepper, to taste
½ cup water
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon flour mixed with 1 tablespoon water
Rinse prawns well; remove heads and tails, devein and rinse prawns again. Drain and

Heat 3 tablespoons oil in a skillet, add onion slices and stir-
Heat 5 tablespoons oil in the same skillet until hot. Add prawns and toss the skillet so that each prawn is cooked evenly. When prawns turn pink, turn over and fry the other side.
Reduce heat; sprinkle wine and remove prawns from skillet.
Place remaining oil in skillet and heat; add tomato wedges, tomato sauce, sugar, water, Worcestershire sauce, salt and black pepper. Mix all seasonings well and bring to a boil.
Return cooked prawns and onions to skillet; stir-
Finally, thicken sauce with flour mixture and stir-
