Skin Care for Acne Skin

By Tiffany Moore

Acne is defined as a skin condition that involves the hair and oil glands. It is characterized by pimples, black or white heads, redness and cysts. Face acne can spoil your appearance to a great extent and body acne can really ruin your day by making you very uncomfortable and self-conscious.

Considering the fact that acne is not a major medical problem, some people tend to totally disregard acne skin care regimen. However, the importance of  skin care for acne sufferers cannot be undermined in any way.

Acne skin care should really start much before the acne actually appears. Acne skin care is more about being proactive than reactive. Acne skin care is about being aware of preventive measures. Acne skin care is – following daily skin care routine with complete discipline. So let's take a look at how acne skin care can be applied to your daily routine.

How to Care for Acne Prone Skin

Acne skin care regimen begins with the most basic thing, that is cleanliness. So morning showers are necessary for keeping your skin clean and fresh. In fact, a lot of people take night showers too.

Not only does this help in keeping your skin clean, night shower also relaxes your body and gives you more restful sleep.

If you are living in a hot and/or humid place, a night shower is a must. A shower is also recommended after any activity that causes high levels of perspiration to develop (such as after a run or gardening). This is an extremely effective technique in preventing acne development.

However, acne skin care is not just about having showers. Acne skin care is also about wearing clean clothes and sleeping on clean pillows.

Wearing too tight clothes can cause sweat to accumulate quickly. Always go for soft and comfortable cotton clothes that allow your skin to 'breathe'.

In the same sense, acne skin care also advocates regular cleaning of your make-up brushes, sponges and any other things that you use on your body.

In addition to that, you should also use a mild, water-soluble, oil-free and soap-free cleanser for your face, neck and arms. Cleansing is the most important in any acne skin care routine.

Cleaners are the easiest and the most effective way of removing dirt, grease, pollutants and excess oil from your skin; thus reducing the probability of acne occurrence.

And, you should always remove your make up using a proper make up remover before you go to bed.

If you already have acne, do not try to touch or squeeze the acne as this can lead to permanent scars. Use a gentle cleanser and clean the affected area with an over-the-counter medication and a clean soft cotton pad.

There are numerous acne skin care creams and lotions available over-the-counter (a lot of these acne skin care products are actually cleansers) but if these products do not give you the desired results, contact a dermatologist for professional acne skin care advice and treatments.
