Soothing Oatmeal Honey Acne Face Mask

Drinking sufficient fluids daily, having plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet, and steering clear of fatty, greasy foods are everyday things that you can do to keep acne away without spending a lot of money on acne treatment products. However, I’d also like to suggest you use diluted lemon juice (internally) as a home remedy to naturally clear up acne and keep oily skin under control.

Lemon juice is one of the cheapest and best natural acne cures around because of its alkaline properties and detoxifying effects on the body. It works to gently flush toxins out of your body, which helps to keep your system cleansed and healthy, thereby controlling acne naturally. In addition to that, the Vitamin C in lemon juice also helps collagen synthesis in your skin’s epidermal layer (improve skin elasticity and encourage new skin cell growth). Hence, you'll see a huge difference in terms of skin texture and complexion – firmer, smoother and brighter-looking skin.

Aside from clearing acne naturally, lemon juice benefits your health in numerous ways. The juice from lemon helps relieve constipation, aids digestion, cleanses the liver and removes kidney stones, and calcium deposits in the body, to name a few.

Add freshly squeezed lemon juice (about ¼ lemon) to a cup of lukewarm water, but don't add sugar or other sweeteners such as honey and stevia. Drink the diluetd lemon juice twice a day; you can take it a few hours after breakfast and before bedtime. I don't recommend drinking it on an empty stomach because the acidic nature of lemon may hurt your stomach, if you can't handle it. Also, use a straw to drink the lemon juice to reduce the contact of acid juices with your teeth.

Homemade Acne Oatmeal Honey Facial Mask Recipe

The humble oatmeal is especially great for curing acne because it contains terpinen-4-ol, an anti-microbial ingredient (the same active ingredient found in tea tree oil) that kills bacteria that lives on skin. When these bacteria become trapped in hair follicles and pores, they react with oil and other substances, causing acne.

Oatmeal has highly absorbent powers that works to naturally draw out unwanted oil, impurities and toxins from your pores. When combined with water, oatmeal helps to balance your skin's pH level, thereby improving your overall skin complexion.

Oats is also rich in phenols and flavonoids, potent antioxidants that reduces sun damage to your skin. What's more, oatmeal's rough texture acts as a gentle scrub to slough off dead skin cells on the surface to make way for new fresh ones so your skin complexion becomes clearer, smoother and appear visibly whiter.

 

 

How to Make Oatmeal and Honey Face Mask to Treat Acne Skin

1. Add ¾ cup oatmeal to ½ cup water. Cook for a few minutes, and leave it aside to cool. You want it to be slightly warm, not hot.

 

2. Then stir in ¼ cup honey to make a thick sticky paste. I personally prefer to use manuka honey because this special type of honey contains extraordinary healing properties not found in other types of honey. It's very effective in clearing up existing acne and also keeps new breakouts from forming under the skin.

 

3. Spread the paste liberally on your face, carefully avoiding the area around your mouth, nose and eyes. The oatmeal mixture may irritate the skin just under your eyes so it's a good idea to lay thin slices of cucumber or tea bags on your eyes. Both cucumber slices and soaked tea bags will effectively protect and soothe the delicate skin around your eyes, and will also help reduce puffiness and the appearance of dark eye circles.

 

4. Leave the oatmeal acne treatment mask on your face for about 10-20 minutes, and try not to talk or move your face too much. Rinse it completely off using warm water. Gently pat dry with a towel, and apply your favorite toner and moisturizer.

 

For best results, use an oatmeal honey face mask at least 1-3 times per week.
