Quick and Easy Kids Snacks – Strawberry Jam Puffs
By Kate Miller
Let's suppose the kids want sweet pastries but you only have leftover store-bought
puff pastry, a jar of strawberry jam and just one egg sitting in the refrigerator.
So, can you meet the challenge? Of course, you can. Here's the solution – make strawberry
jam puffs. These dainty puffs are extremely easy to make, very pretty to look at
and super yummy to eat.
And, you know what, you can even rope in the kids – get them to egg-wash the puffs
or spoon jam into the centers – it's going to be a fun filled afternoon for the whole
gang! C'mmon, let's go grab those ingredients from the refrigerator.......
Strawberry Jam Puffs Recipe
frozen puff pastry, in this case leftovers
1 egg, beaten
strawberry jam or any other fruit jam
How to make strawberry jam puffs
First, make sure the pastry is completely thawed at room temperature.
Preheat oven to 400°F.
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry to just under ¼ inch thick.
Using a pastry cutter of about ½ inch in diameter, cut the pastry into rounds. Mark
the center with a smaller cutter but do not cut through.
Next, place cut-out pastry on a lined baking tray and brush with beaten egg. Bake
for 10 minutes or until the pastry puffs are well risen and golden.
Remove to cool on a wire rack.
Slightly depress the puffs to make a well in the center and fill it with a teaspoonful
of strawberry jam. Serve warm.
