The Negative Calorie diet has been around for quite a number of years and is still
popular among people who are trying to lose weight although some say it's another
example of a hopeless fad diet.
While I cannot comment whether the negative calorie actually works or not, but it
might be worth a try (only for a short period of time and talk to your doctor first).
My sister-in-law went on this diet, stopped eating fast food and sweet stuff, stayed
off alcohol, and in 8 weeks she lost 12 pounds. She felt healthy and energetic whilst
being on the diet and is really happy with her weight and her whole new wardrobe.
So what's the magic behind the Negative Calorie diet for weight loss? The diet plan
consists of eating foods that use more calories to digest than the number of calories
they contain, hence resulting in negative calories.
A celery stick, for example, contains approximately 5 calories but your body can
actually burn up to 95 calories just by chewing and digesting the food. That creates
a 90-calorie deficit in your body. For this reason, the more negative calorie food
items you eat (in their natural state), the more calories and fat you will burn,
and the more weight you lose.
However, some health experts say the Negative Calorie diet plan is not safe and unhealthy
as your body will not be able to get the proper nutrition it needs. Just eating specific
negative calorie foods (mostly vegetables and fruits that are rich in fiber, low
in fat and calories, and high in water) for a long period of time may cause nutritional
deficiencies – protein, iron, calcium and Vitamin B12 – because you are not consuming
meat and dairy products.

What Food Items Fall Under Negative Calorie Diet Food List?
I advise you not to get too caught up in the idea of consuming only negative calorie
foods but rather take a step back and plan your meals around those foods with high
thermogenic effects (fat burning), high in nutritional value, low in calories and
high in dietary fiber, which will fill up your stomach and help suppress your appetite
My suggestion is to consume nutrient-packed fruits and vegetables along with high-fiber
wholegrain carbohydrates like brown rice, and lean protein such as fish or chicken.
If you want a snack, pick something from the negative calorie food list such as carrot,
celery or apple instead of grabbing a bag of fat-laden crisps.
For example, start your day off right with a good bowl of oatmeal porridge and a
small apple. For lunch, a warm mango chicken salad. Perhaps, a low fat tuna pasta
accompanied by a crunchy broccoli salad for your evening meal.
That being said, the most important thing to remember when it comes permanent weight
reduction is you cannot stay on a diet forever. You will only lose pounds and keep
it off for good if you eat a healthy balanced and varied diet in controlled moderation
and exercise on a regular basis.
