I am a 31 year old woman and I suddenly started getting adult acne out of nowhere,
especially on my chin and around my mouth. This is really depressing because I never
had pimple breakouts during my teenage years! I am wondering if hormones could be
causing this. Also, will a detox or juice fast help clear up and cure my adult acne
fast. If so, what juices are the best to drink to get rid of acne? Thank you. –
What Juices Are Best to Drink for Acne?
Adult acne is a fairly common skin condition that can happen to both men and women
who may have never suffered from acne problems when they were younger.
Broadly speaking, hormones are not the primary cause of adult acne but they can be
a contributing factor. Some women experience mild to moderate adult acne due to fluctuations
in hormone levels associated with menstruation, menopause, pregnancy as well as stopping
and starting birth control pills.
In addition to these possible causes of adult acne, stress, insufficient sleep and
using the wrong skin care products or makeup on your face can also lead to nasty
acne breakouts. Therefore, I strongly advise you find out the root cause of your
adult acne and treat it accordingly.
For example, if you are under a lot of stress lately and have a hard time falling
asleep, try some stress-busting activities like yoga or listening to soothing music
to rejuvenate your mind and body. If you suspect that your makeup is causing acne,
opt for mineral-based makeup that uses natural ingredients instead of regular makeup
containing artificial color.
Doing a detoxifying juice fast is a great way to improve adult acne from the inside.
It helps the body rid itself of accumulated toxins and impurities in the blood that
may lead to inflammation in the skin, resulting in clogged pores, blackheads, boils,
acne, and a host of other skin problems.
Keep in mind that juice fasting is not recommended for certain groups of people including
diabetics, pregnant and nursing women. And, if you feel somewhat intimidated at the
thought of going without solid food for anywhere from 3 to 10 days, my suggestion
is to incorporate juicing into your daily diet rather than doing a strict acne detox
You can start your day with an invigorating cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice (diluted
in warm water) on an empty stomach, or drink organic aloe vera juice to cleanse your
digestive system and help heal adult acne naturally. Then consume any of the acne-fighting
vegetable/fruit juice listed below in between your meals.
It is also a good idea to avoid foods that are high in unhealthy fat and sugars,
and reduce your intake of protein and simple carbs. According to some adult acne
sufferers, foods such as dairy products, milk, white bread and tuna can trigger acne
breakouts. You might also want to cut down on caffeine since it raises stress hormones
and can aggravate acne. Instead of coffee or hot chocolate, try anti-acne teas like
milk thistle, nettle, dandelion, peppermint, chamomile or burdock.
What Fruit/Vegetable Juices Help Treat Adult Acne?
To get radiantly clear, blemish free skin, choose antioxidant-rich fruit and vegetables
that provide you with skin-boosting Vitamins such as:
1. Vitamin A protects skin cells from free radical damage and delay premature skin
aging. Furthermore, Vit A strengthens your skin's protective tissue and prevents
acne by reducing sebum production.
2. Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) is required for your body’s growth mechanisms so it benefits
the healthy growth of skin, hair as well as nails. Together with Vitamin A, it aids
digestion and prevents the buildup of intestinal waste.
3. Vitamin B3 (niacin) helps increase blood circulation in your body, which in turn
helps deliver more nutrients to skin cells.
4. Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) helps fight stress-induced acne by controlling the
secretion of cortisol from the adrenal glands. It also plays an important role in
the production of Coenzyme A to reduce oil production and helps rid your skin of
adult acne naturally.
5. Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) deficiency can lead to dry and scaly skin, especially
around your mouth.
6. Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) boost the production of collagen, a structural protein
in your skin that gives it elasticity and youthfulness. It also offers protection
against free radicals and speeds up skin healing.
7. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant essential for shielding your skin from harmful
UV rays, pollution and smoke.
8. Zinc is a mineral that has been shown to reduce skin inflammation and can help
with adult acne flare ups. It also promotes wound healing and reduce scarring.
